2003 marks the 100th anniversery of the first Tour de France, but only the 90th edition of the race.
Uh ... "not exactly"?Allez Rouge

Not to be picky, but he did say 100 YEARS of the TdF, and 1903 to 2003 is, in fact, 100 years. (Or is it 101? Nah, let's not go there ...) But you're right about it being the 90th running of the race. Seems to me it's 90 races, over a 100-year period.

If the first Tour had been run in 1903, and then the second was in 2002, would it be reasonable to celebrate "100 years of the Tour" in 2003? My point is only that you can't have a "year of the Tour" if you don't have a race.
Hmm, I see your point.Allez Rouge

WWI began in 1914, and then WWII came along in 1939, and more recently there's been all that unpleasantness in the Balkans, and yes I do realize I'm leaving out a few others ... so it would be like waiting until 2014 rolls around and celebrating (?), "100 Years Of War In Europe."

Okay, I'll buy your argument. "100th Anniversary Tour de France" would have been more accurate.
I think you're splitting hairs herepmf1

as in who cares?

And what do you want to bet that in 2013 we'll have another big event "The 100-th Tour" with all the hype, pomp and advertising such a momentious occasion merits.

Maybe it'll even be an exciting race.
Yep, I think we can count on that.Allez Rouge

The mega-hyped, -pomped, and -advertised "100th Tour" in 2013, I mean. Don't know about the "exciting race" part.

If so, he might be pretty stout over next year's route.
