|I'll be staying in the West Palm Beach area (Jupiter and Palm Beach) during the week of Christmas. Can anybody point me in the direction of some good group rides. Thanks

|I will also be there over Christmas, although I will be in Boca Raton. The best group ride there leaves from A1A and Plametto Park road at 7 am on weekdays and holidays.|

|Call CycleScience in Juno Beach when you get into town. Sat. morning, Bryant Park in Lake Worth, meet up with people between 6:30 and 7am for a quick ride. On Sunday either CycleScience at 7:30 or Palmetto Park and A1A at 7am will give you a ride. www.florida-cycling.com|

|Coming from someone who used to live in Tequesta...Palmetto Park is a good 45 minute (atleast) drive in order to begin a ride...Cycle Science in Juno (about 5-15 minutes) is a much better bet. They have a website and could probably give you some idea of what rides will be going on that week if you email them. As an aside, if the group thing doesn't work in to your other plans, consider a solo ride along A1A to Singer Island, Palm Beach, or Jupiter Island to Hobe Sound for a shorter route. Keep in mind that the wind there is directional...the tailwind that you enjoy in the beginning WILL be in your face on the way back or vice versa, and that your highest elevation changes will come from the intracoastal bridges....and bring sunscreen and an extra water bottle ;) enjoy|

|I'm also headed that way in dec. (21-30) I'm staying with my parents in delray. MOst of the years that i have gone down there, i have found that most of the road rides head north and south on A1A along the coast. IMO it's about the only decent riding to be had. No hills of course, but great for flat out off season mileage. I'll have to look into specific rides, but usually i'll meet up with people on the road and join em.|

|I used to think the best rides were along the beach as well.
Just for the record, I live in Fort Lauderdale and have ridden here for the better part of the last decade.
I suppose riding North or South along the beach is nice if you're not usually close to the beach, but the fact is nowadays the beachfront is so overdeveloped, it's hard to catch a glimpse of ocean between all of the condos anyway. I guess the megabuck homes along the beach in Palm Beach county are nice to look at, but for me it gets pretty boring going up and down the same flat straight road.
My weekend ride of choice is now the South Broward Wheelers ride (http://wheelers.homestead.com), which covers Southwestern Broward county. The road, wind, and scenery vary quite a bit, and the company is usually nice as well.
Granted it would be quite a trip from Palm Beach, so it may not be right for the OP, but I just wanted to get the word out that A1A is not the last word in South Florida cycling. Actually, I won't ride A1A in Broward anymore. With all of the road construction, I'm tired of coming home covered in tar.
