If I recall, the starting price was $1,400 the first time around.

I guess that he doesn't realize that you can buy that same bike new (without the paintjob and Colnago stickers) for under $1,000.

I wished YOu guys here in this forum didn't play games with me? I had no idea whatsoever in regards to this bycycle. So it looks as my dad was taken for a ride pardon the pun on this bike! Consumers would like to know this in Vernon BC for the bike shop that sold it should be beaten!
'Period.'

ebay question of the day....Niwot
Nov 4, 2002 12:23 AM
Does ebay just permit this kind of fraud to run wild, or do they actively encourage it? ;)
not fraudtrekkie1
Nov 4, 2002 9:47 AM
This isn't fraud. It's only fraud if someone is actually deceived. What idiot would believe this is really a Colnago?

What about all the rebadged bikes used by the pros? Would it be fraud to sell one of them?

I sent an E-mail to Trialtir USA, the Colnago distributor in the US to let them know. I also E-mailed the seller and asked him since when did Softride start making Colnagos. His response:

"Ask my dad he was the buyer! He has owned many many bikes! He is a avid
rider and purchased this in town from a respectable cycle shop!
His # is 1-250-545-5082 ask for Rod! He can tell you all about the bike!"

I don't know about you, but I find people that end all their sentences with exclamation points annoying.
Don't ask morons questions.53T

This guy thinks you are really looking for information, rather than calling him a crook. You should just call him a crook and end all your sentences with periods.

I wonder what his father thinks of his phone number on the internet?

Well, his father is going to find out because I forwarded all the information to Trialtir and hopefully they are going to investigate. This guy is a moron...I basically called him a crook and he gives me a phone number!
Do you really think the Colnago distributor cares?Kristin
Nov 4, 2002 9:55 AM
Even if they did, what would they do?? This is a resale item in a free market. It's worth what someone is willing to pay for it. If someone more foolish than the seller comes along and pay the asking price, then--to that person--its worth the price. This is economic Darwinism in action. The most foolish person will end up with the least net value.
Do you really think the Colnago distributor cares?gregario
Nov 4, 2002 12:10 PM
I certainly would think so. Let's say you made Kristin's widgets and someone else was making widgets and slapping your trademarked name on them. Are you telling me you wouldn't care?
If someone made a bunch of widgets stealing my trade markKristin
Nov 4, 2002 12:21 PM
And selling them new. Then yes, I'd care. But if one fake widget with my trademark appears on Ebay for sale, used, years later--it really wouldn't be worth my time.
About the phone number....gregario
Nov 4, 2002 8:38 AM
I forgot that he also has it listed in the item description. Swift.

Doesn't Colnago build custom too? and other questionsKristin
Nov 4, 2002 12:50 PM
I thought they did. Then, I would wonder if this couldn't be an older Colnago built to take a beam. If its not, what could it be--a Cocoon? Otherwise, it'd have to be something custom. I know someone with an older softride--they haven't been around that long--and it doesn't look anything like his bike. Plus, is that a Softride Beam or some other? (Every Softride Beam I've seen has Softride painted in big letters.)

Lastly, what levers are those? They look neat. Are they cheap or good?
Bianchi SoftrideDuke249

Strangely enough, I have seen-at least in a catalog-a beam-bike made by Bianchi. I got the catalog at a bicycle shop in Heidelburg, Germany in 1996 and sure enough, it has one of these being marketed as a triathalon bicycle. You never know what sort of wacky stuff you'll find in Europe...

If I ever have the chance, I'll scan the catalog and post for all to see.

I JUST GOT OFF THE PHONE WITH MY DAD AND HE STATED IT IS A WHAT IT WAS IN THE FIRST PLACE? A Colonago. HE STATES IT HAS A STAMP IN ITS FRAME AND IS A 100% COLONAGO FRAME WITH A SPRING SEAT UPON THE BIKE. I AM NOT A RIDER NOR HAVE I KNOWLEDGE ON ROAD BYCYCLES. SO FROM MY STAND POINT I DO NOT CARE. THE EBAY ITEM HAS BEEN TAKEN OFF FOR THIS IS A NIGHTMARE AND MAKES ME LOOK SHADY. THANKS FOR THIS GREAT EXPERIENCE I WILL LOOK AT RIDERS IN A MUCH DIFFERENT WAY FROM NOW ON.

PS: LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO BE YACKING ABOUT THIS ON A FORUM HAVE PEOPLE NO BETTER THINGS TO BETTER OR DO WITH THERE SPARE TIME. GET A REAL HOBBIE... OR A REAL LIFE...
