Tires - Michelin Pro Race vs. Bontrager Race X-Lites...jtferraro

My LBS was supposed to build up my bike w/the Bontrager Race X-Lites but they didn't have them at the time and built it up w/Michelin Pro Race tires. They said they'd swap out the Michelins if I prefer but perhaps they're better tires? I know the Race X-Lites have a good rep. Anyone have any experience w/the Michelins?

Got 'em on three bikes . . .Look381i

Put them on over the summer. No problems. Seem just like Axial Pros (but are supposedly improved) in diffeent colors. One set now has about 2500k on them.
Good to hear. Thanks everybody. Do you have a URL to them?jtferraro

I've have them on my road bikes for the past several years and have been very pleased with first the Axial Pro's and now the pro race tires. Their performance and durability are excellent, imho....

I probably just got some from a bad batch, but the sidewalls on both my front and rear race x-lites have holes in them after only about 200 miles

That's interesting. I have used the Bontragers all season. So far, no flats (3000 miles) on two pairs of tires. But on the first front tire I was just about to make a descent when something didn't feel right. I found a hole on the sidewall that had open up enough for the inner tube to form a bubble on the outside of the tire. I thought that somehow I must of run over something, but maybe there was a defect in the tire. hummmmm....
I like my Pro RacesBenR

Can't speak for Bontrager, but the Pro-Races are wearing well, outlasting my typical Conti ultra 2000 training tire at 2500 miles and going strong. They seem to be an impossible improvement in a combination of road feel (truly very close to tubulars), traction, and durability over the set of Axial Pros I tried a couple years ago.

I don't know what Michelin did, but it isn't just marketing hype. These babies caused me to switch from Conti's after several years of loyalty. Whether you race or not, the pro-race is simply a better all-around tire than any other clincher currently on the market. You'll be very pleased with it.
Great!! Thanks. (nm)jtferraro

Wanted to add to the response for these. I've used them exclusively on my training bike for about a year now. I've had one puncture flat that would have happened on any tire; the traction is good and they've worn well. I give them two thumbs up (only because I don't have three).
