|What considerations were there for you? Was it just a matter of getting a longer rear axle and spacing it out to fit the dropouts?
I am seriously considering getting one for a fixie, and if you've been through it, let me know what you did and what components you're using.

|I used the Surly 1x1 flip hub with 135 spacing. It gives you the best of both worlds fixed or free.|

|I'm trying to do this myself but I've been told not to expect any new Surly's until January so I'm looking alsewhere. Its a very popular frame for a fixie it seems. I saw one guy who just used spacers in the rear and it worked fine for him.

|I have spoken with Surly via email and checked a few other sources. It seems the current RED surly cross check is sitting on the docks in the back log of shipments due to the recent dock workers strike. It should be availible very soon.
It is the new version of the steamroller that will not be availible until the new year. And I think the 29" single speed named "Karate Monkey".
one last note, many Surly Dealers stock the frame. check out:
or your local bike shop.

|...just when I get over my desire to own a 1x1 they roll out the Crosscheck and Steamroller.
Then after I successfully get over those, and get down to some hardcore lusting after an On-One Il Pompino or a Ucycles touring frame...
...they introduce a new Steamroller and a 29er called KARATE MONKEY?!??!?!
I MUST HAVE A KARATE MONKEY!
I DON'T EVEN CARE WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE.
GIMME KARATE MONKEY NOW!
(Cue Ahimsa turning green and bursting the buttons on his shirt. He throws a chair and smashes through the wall.)
KARATE MONKEY! GIVE ME KARATE MONKEY NOW!

|Gimme Monkey, baby!
Cheers, and apologies to the tender roadies for a MTB pic. Still, it is 700c after all, and mine will run touring tires for city fun.

|"Cover me when I run
Cover me through the fire
Something knocked me out' the trees
Now I'm on my knees
Cover me, darling please
Fox the fox
Rat the rat
You can ape the ape
I know about that
There is one thing you must be sure of
I can't take any more
Darling, don't you monkey with the monkey
Wheels keep turning
Don't like it but I guess I'm learning"

On a hippy trail, head full of zombie,
I met a strange monkey, she made me nervous,
She took me in and gave me breakfast, and she said..."

|Last I checked AEBikes.com had either Cross Checks or Steamrollers in stock for about $280. Worth a look.|| |
