|are these interchangeable? other than stem rise, the most obvious difference is for bar diameter. road uses the 26.0 or 31.8(oversize) standard. mountain seems to use 25.4. so is it a bad idea to substitute a 25.4 mountain stem for a 26.0 road appliation?
I have a thomson mtn stem that I as thinking of trying on the road bike before committing to it.

|smaller clamp wil crimp your bars when you torque down on it. But you can try it if you want. some people say it works just fine. Personally, i like to stay out of the hospital.|

|With the removable face plate design of a Thomson stem you shouldn't have any problems. This is a very common practice on tandems.|| |
