ok, when i am on the big ring, i cannot use the 4 largest cogs without fairly bad chain rub. on the small chain ring, i can go down to the 2nd to smallest cog. i have a 12-25 cassette and 53/39 crankset. is this normal and if not, what can i do to fix it. thanks.
Define chain rubKerry

Can we assume the chain is rubbing on the cage of the front derailleur? Assuming the answer is yes, then you have two possibilities. First is to simply adjust the "cable length" with the adjuster on the down tube/head tube. This adjustment should move the FD cage closer to the frame. Second might be that the FD is not parallel to the chain rings. Typically, the outer plate should be parallel with the chain rings. Sometimes, the rear of the cage should be rotated very slightly away from the frame, depending on your total set up. Your small-small situation is common - it's a rare setup that doesn't result in the chain rubbing on the big ring in the small-small combo.
