I am 6'9'' former college basketball player who has taken up biking as a means of transportation and exercise because of too many broken ankles. I have encountered a problem; I cannot find a road bike that can fit my size. I live in Buffalo, NY and was hoping I could be pointed in the right direction to buy either a new or if available used road bike. Please advise.
Try Landshark. Detlef Schrempf rides one and he's 6'10, alsochopper

They make, I believe a 27" frame, special order only, though.

Riv is supposed to be coming out with a production bike called the Redwood in very tall sizes only. There's nothing about it on their website (www.rivendellbicycles.com) yet, but Sheldon Brown took a picture of the prototype at Interbike, and you can see it in his article here: http://www.sheldonbrown.com/interbike02.html

I'm not sure what the ETA for this frame is, but I'm sure you could e-mail Grant (Peterson - owner and founder of Rivendell) and ask him.

Melinda, who is on the other end of the height spectrum.

Leonard Zinn (Of the Zinn Maintenance books) is 6'6" and decided that if he couldn't get a good frame for himself he would make one. Check out his project Big Bike.

and rides a waterford (www.waterfordbikes.com). It's custom made of course, although the do have off the peg size up to 68cm i believe. anyway, another option

I am ONLY 6'6" ! And I went through the search for stock bikes that would fit. Can't be done. The Zinn option is really a default spec and for the same price you can get a custom Zinn. I went with a Seven Axiom which was more than I wanted to spend but I am so happy I did. As you'll read everywhere, proper bike fit is essential to maximizing your enjoyment. Cannondale has special order 66cm frame that's not custom price...but that may be too small for you. Large used bikes get bought immediately when listed in eBay and RBR Classified so you'd have to be lucky to be catch one. So consider an investment in custom Seven, Serotta, Indendent Fabrication, Zinn, Strong, Spectrum, or others.

Tet (Tom Teesdale)is another option. Very reasonably priced, but you'll have to work out the fit yourself (I did mine with a Serotta bike fit specialist).

One other point, Zinn is, himself, 6'5" so might have the most insight into frame geometry of someone your size.
