TDF/Alpes ride pictures....philippe crist

A while back some people asked me to post more TDF pictures when I finally got around to having the negatives scanned -- here they are.

Les Deux Alpes about 3kms from the dam --- Botero has just steamed by and here comes the chase group. Now my cousin swears that Rumsas had a syringe sticking out his a$$ but I didn't see it!

Jalabert...

Ekimov and Hondo, their work is done but they still have to make it to the top.

Dufaux et al. in the laughing group... and they were laughing!

Next day. About 5kms from the finish in La Plagne...

This guy is happy because the woman off to the left is jumping up in down in a St. Tropez strappy bathing suit that leaves little, if anything, to be imagined!

O'Grady put in a great effort on the Madeleine -- now he is paying for it.

Landis taking it "easy"...

They just heard the news -- a victory for the Dutch! (These guys came down from holland the night before -- with a sofa, a mini-fridge full of beer and a diesel generator out back to run the fridge, tv and radio!

And now for a mini illustrated ride report. Col de la Croix de Fer, Galibier, Alpe d'Huez and back to the Col de la Croix de Fer.

Last km on the way up the Galibier's south side --thank god!!!

Look, no hands at 70 kms/hr! Picture taken on the way down the South side of the Galibier heading to the Lautaret.

My mate Ceallach working his way past the first turn up the Alpe d'Huez...this is the steep stuff!!! Ouch.

And here we are arriving -- that wasn't so bad!

And, the best bit -- the descent. Me and my cousin seeing who can make it down the mountain w/ the least braking -- he won...

Argh -- the climb back up the Croix de Fer as night is falling -- who's hair-brained idea was it to park the Kangoo at the top of the col?!

and a parting shot from later that week: just leaving the Gite d'Etape above Aime for a great late afternoon ride up in the pastures on the way to Bourg d'Oisans.

Hope you enjoy this blast from last summer as the leaves are falling with the temperature...

A+

Hope to ride them next year. My sister-in-law lives in France (Leone). We hope to visit them in the summer, hopefully during the TDF.

Cool Phillipe...I was on those same Mountains. I was higher up on Les Deux. I just developed some film pics and a few included my picture with Botero only hours after he won the stage. I stayed in same hotel as Lampre and Kelme. I scored really sweet schwag including the room assigment sheet for Lampre team. Lo and Behold I was only two doors down from Rumsas on the second floor! They left their keys in the door ...I could have started the shakedown early had I known of the syringe in his ass in your pic!

Lyon is slated For it's own stage as the 100th anniversary will try an retrace some of original route. Lyon is one of those cities.

The upcoming year will be my fourth straight and I am lucky enough to be on hand for the entire race. I am helping several people plan their own trips and if any of you are making the trip lemme know. I work with a tour company and have most of the trip logistics down pat.

Great story on the way to Lyon on the A6 autoroute from Paris is a hill named the Col d' la Gran boeuf.....my translation is not exact but it roughly means "climb of the big meat"

I laughed and though of Phil and Paul making the call. "Armstrong is riding hard on the big meat"

Pic below is on Champs..I am goofball with cowboy hat and number 4 sign

This was 2001 at Mountain time trial. A photog friend of my set me and another friend up for this great shot where I was crouched in the turn...after 20 minutes of work another photog snuck up behind him and pimped the shot! It was an AP pic worldwide the next day.

This was the top of Ventoux in 2000...what an epic day. Was posing here with guy named Gary from San Diego, the female is Jen McRae (Chann's Wife) who is an Austin girl and a friend. I am the nerd on the cowboy hat. Chann dropped out that day. I still remember waiting with Jen for Chann to arrive on Ventoux....he never did.

means the "Big beef pass" (or, more precisely the "big ox pass") -- still, I think it would be great to hear "Armstrong is giving the big beef all he's got!"
