it's a tri-bike. he has to maintain his aero position for something a bit over 5 hours. while his hands may be higher than the super-low tour TT positions, it makes the position aero AND maintainable.

on Spencer's case this year it was far less. He got DQed. Damn shame too after last year's showing. FWIW, the top pros were around 4.5 for 112 miles this year. Madam Pele kept the notorius mukluks at bay.

was 2d or 3d in Ironman bike split @ 4:40 or so. I looked at the results and his swim was respectable, bike was excellent, but he lagged in the run.

Did SPencer get Dq'd for drafting?
pink spencer DQ'd for 2 drafting citations..dotkaye

though rumour has it the pack was sucking his wheel for an hour or so, during which time there were no drafting marshals.. so he was justifiably PO'd when the marshals pounced on him. Still, after the first drafting warning, you'd think he'd have paid attention.
Is he rolling on Eurus? (nm)Iwannapodiumgirl

if memory serves me, he failed a drug test for testosterone several years ago, which prompted him to give up triathlon and have a go at road cycling. He was a flop there, I think he may have been on the Linda McCartney team, although I'm not sure. I guess he gravitated back to his first love.

Spencer failed an "a" test (I think for one of the N-steroids) but passed the "b" test. Subsequent investigation showed that ITU had mishandled the "a" sample, suggesting that it wasn't his. Anyhow, while he fought the initial allegation he left tri for a while and did in fact join the Linda M team. In truth, I think he was soul searching after his pop passed away.

Is he too muscular? I doubt that too. You shouldn't look at him from the roadie-whippet standpoint. Roberto Heras' build doesn't dovetail nicely into tri. Look at Spencer and his peers like Jurgen Zack, Lothar Leder, Peter Reid, etc, and you'll find athletes with far more upper body bulk than roadies. It's a by-product of all the swimming.

As for Spencer's choice in colours, perhaps he shoulda stuck to his old MetRx black and white and stood out less to the marshalls.
I would laugh at that picture...empacher6seat

but he's probably a better athlete then I, or most on this board, will ever be. :P
Ride on, Pink man!
