|Man convicted of slashing bicyclist's face

GOSHEN, N.Y. (AP) A three-time felon faces 25 years to life in prison for slashing a woman in the face with a broken soda bottle as she bicycled on a trail.
An Orange County jury deliberated for less than two hours Thursday before convicting Willie McClain of assaulting Jane Scelta as she biked alone on the Heritage Trail in April.
Scelta, 37, said she tried to steer around McClain before he swung at her with the jagged bottle and cut her face. She managed to keep pedaling 1,000 feet before jumping from her bike to call 911.
McClain testified that he collided with the woman by accident.
His lawyer, Michael Davis, said in his closing statement. ''If you weigh the evidence, you will see this was not an intentional act. Did Mr. McClain intend to do what he did to Mrs. Scelta? I submit to you, he did not.''
Scelta has since undergone numerous surgeries to repair the damage to her face. Scelta has been left scarred, disfigured, with a crooked smiled and unable to frown, said Assistant District Attorney Kenneth Mastellone.
''I'm relieved that someone's been held accountable for what they did,'' Scelta said. ''Maybe now I can try to move on with my life.''
McClain will be sentenced November 15.
I'm trying to figure out where he found a "glass soda bottle"- haven't seen one in years!
