|Spring/wire poked through hood -- Campy shifter rebuild?||PdxMark|

|I noticed during my last ride the a very fine spring/wire was poking through the hood on my right shifter (2001 Chorus). It was poking out to the right about where my ring finger is when riding the hoods.
I tucked the wire back inside the hoods and continued the ride. But I'm thinking that I need to consider a rebuild for the shifter. Campyonly talks a bit about how to do it, and Branford Bikes will do it for $25 labor (a bargain, I suspect), but just a general question. Has anyone done it? Any comments/thoughts about doing it myself? Anyone seen one of these springs poke through before? Should we have a pool on how many more miles I can ride before the shifter locks up?

|Are you sure it's a spring wire? Is it a renegade wire from your derailer shroud? I can't imagine where the spring would come from to poke through there; but then I've never had a spring break. Does the thing still shift?

|I'll dig in to see where it's coming from... It seemed pretty long... Shifting is still working fine.|

|I had a wire poke through, but it turned out to be an unraveling derailleur cable. I've also rebuilt the shifter. Some people say it's an easy 10 minute job. Nope. It's a fairly easy 30-45 minute job.|
