What is the length and average grade of Palomar Mtn, San Diego?

I think it depends on where you actually start counting from. Just the ride to get out there is pretty serious. Anyway, I was in the LBS the other day and another riding was asking and someone said 13 miles, probably 6-8% grade on average.

.....the ride to get there is serious and so is the ride to the top. It is truly beautiful and one of the more scenic rides you'll ever take. I used to live in Escondido and ride my motorcycle to Palomar on early spring mornings, before I went to work at the motorcycle shop.
I mapped it out once ...Humma Hah

... which convinced me not to try it on the cruiser.

The route I checked on a topo map program was fairly steep, but with one switchback after another ... a huge number of them. Looked like the climb itself was do-able for a fit rider, but maintaining momentum on the switchbacks could be a problem. It's probably a bit harder than the climb and distance suggest.
FYI: Underground race this Saturday at Palomar...Bruno
