|I think it depends on where you actually start counting from. Just the ride to get out there is pretty serious. Anyway, I was in the LBS the other day and another riding was asking and someone said 13 miles, probably 6-8% grade on average.|

|.....the ride to get there is serious and so is the ride to the top. It is truly beautiful and one of the more scenic rides you'll ever take. I used to live in Escondido and ride my motorcycle to Palomar on early spring mornings, before I went to work at the motorcycle shop.|

|... which convinced me not to try it on the cruiser.
The route I checked on a topo map program was fairly steep, but with one switchback after another ... a huge number of them. Looked like the climb itself was do-able for a fit rider, but maintaining momentum on the switchbacks could be a problem. It's probably a bit harder than the climb and distance suggest.
