The love of my life (stoker, biker babe, riding buddy), Kathy, was diagnosed almost two years ago as having exercise induced Asthma after beginning to suffer from shortness of breath. She'd never been a "spinner" but her strong legs allowed her to mash with conviction at times when my well seasoned legs couldn't keep up.
This past month it seemed to be getting worse and worse. Inhalers weren't consistently helping and she'd feel like crap after even an easy ride.
An Echocardiogram turned up a growth in her heart. Right Atrial Myxoma to be exact. 4cm x 4cm x 6cm. That's BIG!
A subsequent Tracheal Echo also revealed a hole between the chambers of her heart. Apparently this is fairly common and normally ignored. The combination of these, in Kathy's case, caused blood to be routed into the left heart chamber without the blood being sufficiently oxygenated.
She underwent surgery within a few days and is expected to recover to a fitness level of years ago.
Good news! Wish her well on a speedy recovery! nmnoveread

Knoxville went great. I felt underprepared, but you never know. I was all ready to retire, but now Kathy might want to do a double once she's recovered.
It's pretty exciting to think how strong she could become. All the time I've ridden with her this thing was growing in her heart.
Wonderful news!Tig

Give her our best wishes for a speedy recovery. I hope her "new life" (new health) is wonderful. Take good care of her. A good woman is hard to find.
