|Will be in my first Race (Tour) in a couple of weeks....been training relatively hard....
Only a metric century, but thought it would be a good start. Have no intention of doing well, really only in it for experience and T-Shirt :)
Any advise for a total newbie?

|I did my first tour three weeks ago (not a race, but it took three days to finish). It was a lot of fun, and I enjoyed it so much that I am doing another century this weekend.
I found out that this rule "Eat before you get hungry, and drink before you get thirsty" to be so true. In addition, have energy bars/gel or whatever handy all the time. They will help.
You also want familiarize yourself to group ride etiquette such as hand signals, what to say and when to say it, etc. They make you prepared for what to come and, therefore, significantly reduces chances to get involved with accidents.
You need to keep your own pace. There will be people you pass and there will be people who pass you. But it is important to keep your comfortable cadence rate. I often found myself in a pack that went at about my speed.
Sometimes, a candy in your mouth is sweet. It made me feel more relaxed.
Enjoy the century and have a safe ride!!
