Blackburn TP-4 Floor Pump(3 posts)

Blackburn TP-4 Floor PumpGDR

I just got a Blackburn TP-4 pump and am wondering if it is working correctly. After I inflate the Presta valve and turn the locking mechanism into the unlock position, to remove the head from the tire, air leaks out of the Schraeder side (which is opposite from the Presta side). I called Bell sports and they told me that this is the normal operation and to be faster when removing the valve so not as much air leaks out. Does this make sense?

... seems a bit odd, unless you're turning the locking mech a bit further than dead center. If it's off just a bit, then high pressure will try to bleed off through the Schraeder side.

Check to make sure that the mech is centered... and (I'm sure you know this but...) and verify that the air you feel isn't bleeding back out the inflation hose.

Same with the TP-3Tig

I do the same on any pump... just yank it off without unlocking it. The rubber gasket wears out after a few years, but is easy to replace.
