GaleForce to Raise the Hurdle for Cyclocross
National Championships at Domaine Chandon Dec. 14 & 15

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (Oct. 4, 2002) – GaleForce Sports Marketing will
host the 2002 National Cyclocross Championships Dec. 14 and 15 at
Domaine Chandon in California's Napa Valley.

Sunday, Dec. 15 will feature Elite Women at 1:30 pm and Elite Men at 3
pm. Espoir Men and Women, ages 18-22, will race on Saturday Dec. 14.
Amateur racing for men and women of all ages will be staged on both

This marks the second time GaleForce has hosted a major cyclocross
event. In 1999 GaleForce promoted the nationals in the Presidio, drawing
upwards of 18,000 spectators for that weekend's racing.

"We raised the bar, or the hurdle, with our event in 1999," said Rick
Sutton, president of GaleForce, which also promotes the Sea Otter
Classic Powered by SRAM, the Chevy Trucks NORBA Nationals and the
Telluride 360 Festival Presented by Subaru. "Of all the events we've
ever promoted, that event remains the most exciting race I've ever
witnessed. We hope to top that at Domaine Chandon."

Known as the steeplechase of cycling, cyclocross has flourished in
popularity in America. The sport blends elements of both road and
off-road racing in a spectator friendly format. Crowds can typically see
much of the racing from one vantage point. Tightly woven circuits
include turf, pavement and dirt surfaces and take about six minutes for
elite racers to complete. The longest races last only about one hour.
Typically courses feature sections with 16-inch high hurdles that force
the riders to dismount and run with their bikes. Unlike mountain bike
racing, cyclocross courses have no "single track" that prevents a rider
from passing another. And cyclocross rules permit racers to change bikes
and accept help from mechanics.

Having never reached the podium of a world championship until 1999,
Americans have earned international respect in recent years. They have
won one world title and three medals. The U.S. women's team has become
the highest ranked squad in the world and the American men have become
familiar in the lead ranks of European events.

Located in Yountville, Calif., Domaine Chandon is familiar with cycling.
This world famous vineyard, restaurant, and visitors center has hosted
several World Cup mountain bike races. The region is also familiar with
cyclocross, having hosted a number of regional races in recent years.

GaleForce Sports Marketing is an expanding sports marketing and event
management company based in Redwood City, 25 miles south of San
Francisco. GaleForce has promoted, marketed and managed right across the
sporting spectrum. Properties owned or managed by GaleForce include the
Sea Otter Classic and the Chevy Trucks NORBA National Championship
Mountain Bike Series. For more about Cyclocross Nationals or GaleForce,

Should be highly entertaining and colorful! Did one of the Whirled Cup races at the same winery a few years back - lots of up and down and up and down.... Well you get the idea. I totally reccommend going wine tasting immediately after finishing your race - with a designated driver of course! Talk about a cheap date and a great venue....
