What bike rack to buy ?(5 posts)

What bike rack to buy ?PeterRider

I am talking about rack to put on the bike there, not to put on the car ! :-)

Would anybody who has a rack mind looking at the nashbar website and tell me if they would recommend any in the list ? I'm planning an order with Nashbar and thinking of buying a rack for multi-days trips. This is for putting on a Trek 5200, maybe also on my mtb.

Thanks,

Pierre

Ouch ... on a Trek 5200 !!!

I've got a Blackburn rack on my MTB. Not very happy. The rack has snapped after about 14 months !

I'm taking it down to the Blackburn rep this weekend ... we'll see the response.

Cheers.

But this will be only for very occasional trips, I cannot take every month a week off for doing San Francisco - LA...

JandD makes very good racks, and you can get them through their website (www.jandd.com). Make sure you check out the "specials" closeouts page, as they sometimes have racks there.

In general, if JandD makes something, it's going to be the best of its class...

I second Jandd, both their racks and panniers. I bought both front and back set seven years ago for a cross Europe tour for their durability. I still use the back rack and panniers for my daily commute through various types of weather and pull out the whole kit and caboodle for the occasional multi-day tour. Besides some paint chipping and minor fraying, these thing have held up great through daily use and abuse.
