|Sun & wind, great day to play hooky and ride||Starliner|

|Got a call last night from a riding buddy who had a day off, and invited me on a 70 mile ride with him and another guy this morning. It was a great ride, with a lot of elements: strong headwinds, a long climb, several shorter climbs, fast descents, a ton of rollers, and for the last sixteen miles, a strong tailwind on a moderately flat road.
The big climb was at the beginning, and at the crest 9 miles into the ride our average speed was a paltry 8.6 mph. But we kept pushing... and then once we came out of the mountains and hit the valley floor, stiff tailwinds helped us fly the last miles back home at upwards of 35mph, mostly 28-30. That was a friggin delight.
We ended up at an average of 17.7 mph for the ride, with an elevation gain of over 4500 ft, which ain't too bad for a 200 lb. guy 10 days short of his 49th birthday.
