Well, I finally got my new ride. I spent many hours at the store on Friday, getting various gear to go with, and taking a test ride. I replaced my c. 1991 Univega hybrid with a 2003 Specialized Allez Elite. And now that I'm out of my brace (fractured wrist for those who remember my crash post from 6 weeks ago), I can finally ride for real.
I spent my healing time using a trainer 2-3 times/week for 30 minutes (hate it!) doing intervals for 15 minutes. I decided that I couldn't wait any longer, so I had to ride the new bike on Sunday. Took it out for a 21 mile jaunt, about half rolling hills, half flat. Averaged 15 mph, which I don't think is too shabby for the first 'real' ride in 6 weeks.
In any event, I'm psyched to be back in the saddle. I'm just a noob, but I hope to at least develop good endurance, if not great speed. And now that I've got a headlight and a taillight, I can commute even during the winter (here in Ventura, CA). Yay!
P.S. Sorry for the rambling post, but I don't really have anyone else who would understand my joy quite like this board.

|Forgot to mention, this being my first road bike, with my first road saddle, I was hurting after about 10 miles. Yowch! Hopefully, I'll acclimate quickly. Next ride is my commute on Wednesday (7.5 mi each way).|| |
