That one stuck out for me as well. It's brilliant. Seriously. The imagery it creates is perfect, and made all the better because it's kind of an oxymoron.

Bobke's book, "Ride on the Wild Side"......does anyone know where to find this? I know it's out of print, but I really want to read it (especially after listening to him during the Giro & Vuelta).

Any leads would be helpful...

Go to and search Bob Roll under used books - use the advanced search. They do list it, although they say you might not get it do to "limited availability," but they will try to find it for you (within your given price and condition parameters)for up to 12 weeks. I tried BN but it did not come up in their used book inventory when I searched it, but you might have better luck.

"the peleton literally exploded." She was expecting body parts all over the mountain. I told her that Paul says that at least once a day.
Did Bob take a vocabulary course or something?DougSloan

Either Bob has some vocabulary cue cards or he took a course since the Giro. He's using lots more big words. Not that he pronounces them correctly...

He is noticeably looser than his previous gigs, probably because he now has plenty of experience doing live commentary. He still drops into the standard cliches from time to time, but when he gets hit with inspiration and goes on a tear, that's when the magic happens. "The angel of the mountains has been beatified..."
If he says "lactic acid" one more time... I'm gonna kill him!SnowBlind

I want to see/hear him and Robin Williams do the commentary for the Tour one day, I don't think you would get to see much of the race doubled over from the laughter.
Maybe the prolog?

Something like "our little cherubic assassin". It was brilliant - wish I could remember it specifically.
