How do you determine what tire pressure to use? I'm riding a Caad5 with Conti 3000 700x23 tires, weigh 165, and ride on some poor road surfaces.

enough to minimize rolling resistance;
not so much that the ride is uncomfortable for you.

Try 110-115 for starters.

Read a report awhile back which said 120 is the point of diminishing returns for the average (weighted) rider

115.6783 PSI

Actually, start with around 115 and adjust down a little bit. That should be a good starting point.

Doesn't seem to have much accuracy. According to this chart, my tire should be at a little under 80psi. I know for sure my rolling resistance is incredibly high at that level versus 100psi, evident when I let me tires run down on air.
I share your skepticism...jtolleson

at my weight the difference the chart recommends for a 23 vs. a 25, for example, is nearly 40 lbs!

Well... whose 23? WHOSE 25? Every manufacturer is different.

Me 160 riding 23's @ 80psi would be wacko cracko...
It's the total weight!JimP

Your 160 plus the bike weight would be about 180 which would make it about 100 psi.

My entire weight is a little under 160, that gives me under 80psi for 23c. That is definitely not valid! And this chart declares 1.25" tires to be 40psi as the best! Yea, right! I have 1.25" slicks mounted on a MTB and if I inflated it to 40psi they would probably start falling off the rim.
nice looking chart... but data is a bit flawed... nmspyderman

Where did you get the chart from?joekm

Chart looks good, perhaps the questions posted about the chart could be addressed by providing the reference source?
