Poll: whose bike is worth more than their car?mmquest

I don't think that my current bike is worth more than anything, but have ordered a new steed that should be worth about twice what my car is. And it always seems that when I have some $ to spend, the bike gets it and the car gets left out in the cold! Just wondering how many other people are in a similar situation.

(I also wash my bike once a week, the car is lucky if it gets washed 4 times a year. I think that my typical American "my car is my life" neighbors think I am a little strange!)
Yep, on everything you say.scottfree

I paid more for my car than any of my bikes (probably even more than for all of the bikes I now own combined, but it'd be close), but my car can't be worth more than a couple of grand now and I have at least one bike that I could sell for more than that, so I'd have to say I qualify. Certainly all of my bikes are worth WAAAAY more than my car. I put more miles on 'em than the car most years too.

Not exactly, but thinking about it- I could have gotten a new Porsche(or have a nice down payment on a house) this year if I'd been saving all the money I spent on bicycles for the last 11years- seriously!! My current collection is worth more than the book value on my car but no single one is worth more. Man, the things we cyclists sacrifice for sport!! Kinda crazy!!!

I guess it's motivation to ride my bikes more. 50 mpg is a good thing for a student though.

1995 Buick Skylark with 90,000 miles $1,000 on trade
2001 Derbernardi Alle $1357

But my 2000 Saturn L series will be worth more than everything for a while. You know what? I've spent $98,000 since June! Yikes, I hope nothing breaks.

My family of 5 went 4 years as a 1 car (minivan) family. I commuted by bike year round (Minnesota!) and was pretty happy doing so.

Alas, continued pressure to have more "flexibility" to cart us around town led to me "selling out" and getting a second car. Yes, the "new" 90' Mazda Protege is worth less than my Colnago , not to mention my Kona MTB and a couple of other older bikes that I use for commuting.

... that's why I almost always transport my bikes inside my truck... said truck offers a bit of protection.

I have an 87 Honda that I only use to drive to the subway station, which is how I get to the office when I don't take the bike. The value of the Honda depends on how much in repairs I have put into it recently (A friend has joked that I have an 87 Honda body but that most of the rest of the car is less then three years old). However, the Mercury Sable station wagon that my wife usually drives (but is considered the "family") car is worth more than my bike.

People always used to ask how much my bikes were worth or how much I spent on bikes, etc. I wouldn't want to give them accurate number because they'd think I was nuts. I'd just tell them that the bike is worth more than the car it's on. they still thought I was nuts but I didn't have to tell them exactly how nuts I was.

I got a new car this year so that no longer applies. Maybe...If I get all my bikes on the roof...Yeah, maybe!!!

Guess it would be close. Personally though, I'd be much less disappointed if someone stole my Nissan than either of my bikes.

Both my bikes are worth more than my car (road and Mountain) and as well, my electric guitar is worth more than my car. Pretty much every expensive thing I buy is worth more than my car...

Of course, when I say worth more, I mean they are worth more than I paid. Selling my car is a different story! I paid $500 for the thing, and I bet I could get between $2000 and $3000 if I sold it.
I'd say all my bikes are worth more than my '88 Camrygreg n
