Fall debate with myself: new frame?(4 posts)

Fall debate with myself: new frame?j-son

I'm inspired to get a new frame this fall/winter. And I've having this tumultuous internal debate about how to proceed with this potentially life altering decision.

To wit:

My irrational side compells me to spend a wheelbarrow full of cash on a cool TdF raced Euro alu. frame with a marque like Eddy merckx, Pinarello, DeRosa, etc. I would, methinks, look very good on a Team SC, Prince or Merak.

My rational side says a $2,000+ sub 1 kg. frame made by a Euro. builder is probably not the wisest decision. A better choice would be a homegrown steel frame from a reputable builder a la Steelman, Serotta etc. Less money, more reliable.

Besides, would a 1 to 1.5 lb difference in frame weight really matter to a strong and frequent recreational/fitness rider whose racing days were left behind in college?

Rationality or lust! Which impulse to follow?
Follow the lust and go with the De Rosa Merak. (nm)onespeed

apology. They all would be great bikes. Get what you want.
The only thing worse than spending a wheelbarrow of cash is spending 3/4 of a wheelbarrow and wishing you'd got what you wanted in the first place.
I've heard incredible things about the Merckx.
