An idea for roadies...ClydeTri

Some of you should consider as winter approaches getting a mountain bike and trying that sport out. You have been putting those endless miles on your bike up and down the roads. It does get old, admit it. A great way to break the monotony is to get off the road, especially in colder weather. Mtbiking is a different experience than road riding, if you are on single track it is almost like an amusement park ride, you will also find yourself going anerobic sometimes immediately after starting, it can be so much fun, and will give you renewed enthusiasm for the road as spring and warm weather approaches. Yes, there are differences in the roadie and mtb worlds, but riding is fun, and healthy. Seek new experiences. Riding a mtb is much more like riding you did as a kid, when you would ride through the fields and neighbor's yards. As a person who rides both road and trail, I do sense that in general roadies are more uptight and "anal" about their sport. What am I saying? If you havent' ever really tried off road riding, give it a shot, borrow or buy a mtb and hit the trails...I would say the same to mtbikers also, try the roads out. BOTH offer experiences you should and will enjoy. But alas, if it like it is here otherplaces, the vast majority of roadies never try the dirt world out, and vice versa, and both are losing out.
Or you could go with a fixed. (nm)onespeed

my winter is from daylight savings to daylight saving spring. My suggestion based on New England weather is:

Ditch the bike for a few months and ski/snowboard and do weights and run during the week

Come back in spring pumped up and ready to ride. Yo

One of the things I really like is mountain biking through
a local forested area after the leaves have fallen. You
can really see for quite a long ways yet the atmosphere is
totally different than that of road riding.

I've seen numerous wildlife and it's quite nice to just get
away from everything.

Now if I only had a nicer MTB.

actually, my second Giant. looks like a trials bike, but it rides great and I look forward to the winter.
if you remember my TCR, you'd think the only two brands I knew were Giant and Cane Creek.
