October 5 Saturday

R * 200km * DC/MD * 7 AM * Francis Scott Key Park
Georgetown 200K. Starting from Francis Scott Key Park at Key Bridge and M Street. Lots of hills including Sugarloaf and Catoctin Mountains and the potential of about 15 miles of dirt roads with options to avoid the dirt and short options of 100K and 100 miles. Meet at 7am, on the road by 7:15. To confirm

This should be a pretty neat adventure ride right out of the city into the boonies and back. If the dirt is too wet we can skip it (I hope not). Any road bike with 25c or wider tires ought to do and a fairly wide gear range for the dirt climbs.
October 26 Saturday

R * 50/70/100 * VA * 7:30 AM * Nokesville Community Park (NCP)NSA-OCE Fixte Century (With Snow Cone Option). Meeting time is 7:15am for a 7:30 departure. Fairly to very flat, the last 20 miles are rolling. There are 50, 70, & 100 mile options. We'll be riding our track bikes, hence "NSA" = "no shifting available", and "OCE" = "or coasting either"; but
everyone and every type of bike is welcome, especially if one participates in the spirit of the ride and holds shifting and coasting to a minimum.
Bonus points for single speeds. Snow Cones at the park after the ride. No seconds on snow cones for gear heads! RSVP for Snow Cones. Ride leaders intend to ride a "B" pace for the full century. To confirm

Here are the directions to Nokesville:
From Beltway exit 9, go West on I-66
In 20 miles take Exit 44 (2nd exit for VA234 South) toward Manassas Airport.
In 5 miles exit onto VA28 west (Nokesville Rd).
In about 4.5 miles go left on VA652 Fitzwater Drive (TL)
In 1 mi. go right on VA646 Aden Rd @T
In 0.8 mi. go right into the park (just after church).
Restrooms near picnic area. Park in lower lots away from ballfields.
What do you think is the total time for the Oct 5 ride? 7-8 hrsbill

maybe? I can't make the Oct 26, but I'd like to do the 5th. Particularly since I'm signed up for the Seagull the 12th, however, I'll have to figure out exactly how to sell the oct 5 ride.
For us old folks it is going to be all day.MB1

We just don't have it in us to ride hard any more. We won't stop much but still I expect to finish just in time for a nice dinner.

The 100 mile option will get in most of the adventure just skip some of the climbing in the Catoctin Mountains (I've found some killer grades!).
A bunch of guys were talking in front of some single guysbill

about how we married guys get out of the house for rides. The single guys were wide-eyed (a little derisive, a little curious, and a little plain scared).
"You mean," they said, "You mean you have to ask PERMISSION?"
"No, not exactly," we said. "Not exactly. You don't ever really get PERMISSION."
I just got the closest I'm going to get to permission. I think I'm a go for October 5.
Cool, looking forward to riding with you. nmMB1
