Availability and Price of Giant Carbon Frameset?(13 posts)

Availability and Price of Giant Carbon Frameset?Franchise
Sep 10, 2002 4:13 AM
Could someone please tell me the truth about the Giant Carbon Frameset? My LBS keeps telling me that there is a waitlist for these frames and on-line retailers tell me they will have full inventory by Mid-October. I was just wondering what was the true story. Also, I would greatly appreciate an approximate cost of the frameset if you have that information. Thank you in advance for your time and answers.

I ordered mine two weeks ago and hope to see it around the first of Oct. It's going to be my winter project this year.

I think you should be able to get the frame for 1,000 - 1,300 (depending on your relationship with the shop).

I ordered the TCR 0, the one with the blue/white accents. I wanted the Team frame (the limited edition frame sold as a complete bike), but if you order framesets you don't get the same asthetic package as the built team bike (or the one we all see on cycling.news).
how do you know what the colors are?briko51

jefajones,

Thanks for the info. Sounds like your winter project is going to be kick a$$ come spring. I hope to do the same. I am in need of a climbing bike, and this is much cheaper than going the Trek 5900 Superlight route. Thanks again!
Giant Carbon as Climbing Bike?Spunout

In August's ClycleSport, ONCE is using the carbon frames for the flat stages.

But for the climbs, they are going to the Aluminum frame for it is lighter and stiffer.

There is an awesome article on the Bike and team in August issue of CycleSport magazine.

I ordered the TCR carbon on 8-14, picked it up yesterday, the shop scale showed 2.3 lb
for the medium frame. I like the non-team issue color. Natural carbon finish with white
and blue accents. I will post pic as soon as built up. (wed)

I was lusting after the Composite 0 since I saw it in their 2003 catalog last month. And it just so happened that my lbs got in a medium last Wednesday and I walked out of the store with it on Friday. What a sweet ride! I've never ridden anything like it before, blows my TCR1 out of the water, as well as my Look KG241.

According to the scale at the lbs, the total weight of my medium Composite 0 was 15.75 pounds with Speedplay X2 pedals, Ritchey WCS 130mm stem and without water bottle cages...I put on some Tacx Tao's when I got home and swapped out the seatpost from a 3 to a 2 and put Conti GP 3000's on instead of the Axial Races so the weight shouldn't be too much more. Still under 16 I think. Anyway that's a full pound and a half less than my TCR1.

As of last week, my lbs said that there were only 4 of the complete Composite 0 bikes in the NC, VA area. Frames should be readily available shortly since the head mechanic at my lbs got in his large on Friday(my lbs is one of the largest Giant dealers in NC).

I hope they are available soon than expected . . . the ETA on my composite 0 is still three weeks or so, but everyday I hope to have a message from the LBS telling me it is in.
Where in NC do you live? I'm in Wilmington. nmfbg111

Thanks. I go to Raleigh periodically, so next time I'll stop by to check out the new frames.
