Q. for Polar S510/S710 users. Is PC Coach worth the $ ?jjdbike

I am making an attempt to get more serious about my training and train smarter. I am fairly knowledgable about training concepts, periodization, etc. but my time and energy that I am able to spend planning out my rides and assessing my fitness & progress is limited. I am looking for a tool to make it easier & simpler. In other words, to do my thinking and planning for me.
I always use a Polar S710 both as a HRM and a cycle computer. I'll admit that I still don't know exactly know how to use all of the features.
Is the PC Coach & the Cycle "plug in" a usefull tool, will it fit my needs, and is it worth the $60 ?
Do any of you guys use the PC coach? Do you like it? Would you recomend any alternatives?
I like that PC coach seems to be compatable w/ the Polar download feature.
Thanks for the input in advance!

I have the S710 and the software + uplink makes the hrm a 100 times easier to use so I would definitely recommend it. It allows you to make speed + hr + altitude graphs which at the very least are cool... track all your workouts and easily change all the functions on the hrm.

i have the 510 and the elite software. cool for a week, no, two. now, not so interesting. but i just like to be out on the road and the trail. but the graphs look really cool... for a few minutes; and you can impress your friends for about 30 sec. but hey, you may need it. i wanted it and don't need it.

Wow! I thought that more of you guys would have at least tried PC coach & the cycling plug in. The software that comes a/ the Polar HRM will show the graph. What I am looking for is the coaching help, e.g.,ride scheduals, periodisations, etc.
It sounds like all it has are graphs, which the free software provides. So if it dosen't do the things it claims to why on earth would anyone buy it? I believe they must be doing some false advertiseing, which is quite suprising. Am I wrong? I hope so.
Still looking for some more replys. Please?
Thanks!

JD,

I don't believe Polar ever advertised their product as giving ride schedules, perodization and so forth. Even if it did I wouldn't trust it in a million years simply due to the fact that it does not have the human touch. A computer may know all the theory in the world but be incapable of applying the practical knowledge. The watch and the software that comes with the 710 (Polar Precision Performance) can be used to maximize your training. Also the uplink gives you a great way to tinker with the settings of your HRM easily and effectively as well as graph out rides which when interpreted by either yourself or real coach is great when you know what to look for.

If you would like some coaching and periodization I would be willing to help you out. Contact me at Nick@PodiumBound.Ca .

Cheers,
Nick
