I sometimes can't believe what I'm seein' when they rip through intersections..... Whew. Anyway, what are most ridin? I am always surprised at how few mountain bikes I see out there under messengers and just how many roadies I do see. Lately there's a guy on a nice new Cinelli, bright red.... Gutsy dude to put a U lock on that thing. What are most ridin' in your downtown?
Single speed fixies seem to be the norm in Pittsburgh...OffTheBack

I see:

-mostly road frames
-mostly singlespeeds
-surlys, landsharks, colnagos, trek composites, bianchis,
russ denny's, independent fabrication, etc.
-all kinds of wheels, from cxp21s to bladed aero things.
-they're fast.
-there's also a lady messenger too.
Yeah, old fixies for the pros.Sintesi

A lot of them ride straight handlebars cut down to say 10" (no joke)so they can squeeze through the really tight gaps in traffic. Old innertubing wrapped around all the tubes of the main triangle of course. I almost never see any truly fancy or nice rigs or even new ones for that matter.

the rest (hoi poloi messengers) ride whatever, from huffy to old treks. Mountainbikes, roadbikes, hybrids, whatever rolls. And this group is the majority.

I think there are two companies in Pittsburgh

One provides all its rides with old clunker bikes (they look like they are about to fall apart)

The other one the riders supply and most are pretty nice road bikes.
