Should the frame of a cyclocross bike be different than the size of a roadbike frame? The reason I ask is that with all the mounting and dismounting of the bike it seems as if the frame should be a bit smaller. Or am I completly wrong on this assumption?
Yes! You are correct sir!merckx56

a cross bike should be smaller than your road rig. my kona was a 55 and my road bike is a 57. my new jamis team bike will be the same way. if i wanted to ride it on the road, I merely flipped the stem over to get closer to my road position. it will feel weird b/c the bb is higher and front end will be jacked up a bit.

main reason people go smaller with cross bikes is standover--cross bikes have high bbs and taller tires. I personally never really understood the higher bb thing--I think it's leftover from when people used toeclips--didn't want to drag 'em in the mud. Anyway, just size by top tube/cockpit length and put the bars a tad higher and you should be set.
