My bike has arrived!hayaku

My LBS changed the components over from my old bike and delivered it, 30+km to my house in less than 48 hours!

It rides nice and I got a good price. It's a '98 Litespeed Ultimate. Litespeed may be common in the US but this is only the 3rd I have seen around here so that's kinda cool.

I was a gnat's ass away from getting a used 2000 "Ultimate" frameset and swapping over my Ultegra group. I opted instead to get a 2002 Trek 5200 demo bike; seemed like a great deal at the time--$1840 after tax. Deciding that I was tired of settling, I got a Sampson Silverton with D/A. It'll be here this week and I can't wait. It would've been here today, Monday, but there was a foul-up with the bank's computors...tropical storm Fay and all. Happy riding
Nice background, too! (nm)mja

Rode it into work this morning. Its a 1999 brushed. I think the bike was the same in 1999 and 1998. I like it so much more than the newer ones with carbon stays, integrated HS and cut-out seat tubes. The bent seat tube is cool. Enjoy it.
Maybe you can help us...hayaku

There was a question raised about the accuracy of the model... Does your bike have the bent seat tube? I'm pretty sure I was told that mine was a '98 but I could be wrong. I bought it after a big race, dealing in Japanese so I can't remember a great deal of the bargining.

Either way, it is a great ride. 150km yesterday and no aches or pains. I can bend it a little bit but still, it is pretty stiff.

Thanks for your comments and assistance.

If you were sold that bike as a 1998, you have an issue. It is hard to tell with the polish but it looks like a 1995 or 1996. In 1997 they went to a bladed 6/4 down tube and this looks like you have the 1995 or 1996 round tubed version. Just want to let you know in case someone sold this to you as a 1998.

That is exactly what I was thinking. The bike pictured looks exactly like the one I rode in 95. Litespeed typically changes the decals slightly most every year and they definitely changed the downtube in 97. This is still a very nice bike and I had great results on mine.
To be honest...hayaku

It doesn't worry me if it is an earlier model. I'd rather not have the seat tube cut out, intergrated headset or carbon seat stays of the newer versions.

I got it for a great price. I live in Japan and things don't seem to lose their value over here. Not many big clear out sales, but it means that I could get more than I paid for it if I wanted to sell it.

Thanks for you concern though.
I think you're rightpmf1

I didn't look closely, but the down tube is not bladed and the seat stays are straight rather than bent. Definitely not a 1999 or 1998. Still a nice bike though. Hope he got a deal on it.
Nicest looking one I've seen . . .DCW

I like the polished ti, yellow cables and wheels -- it makes it look lighter. All the Litespeed types around here seem to go for the industrial look, brushed ti + black.
Yea, I was really happy when I first saw it.hayaku

I hadn't put any thought into cable covers, my bike shop did that. I had the yellow tires and saddle from my old bike so it's just lucky for me Litespeed decals are yellow too. What do you think about yellow bar tape?

Thanks for you comments.

Looks nice. I like to see some individuality in Ti bikes, since most don't have paint. Litespeed uses yellow bar tape on a lot of their new bikes and I think it looks nice.

My Litespeed seems lose color and get more black as the years go by. I went for all black tires, blacker wheels (Mavic Ks) to replace the silver Open Pros, black Litespeed bar tape, black stem, black Ouzo Pro fork, black Chris King headset, etc. But I like seeing what other folks have done to their bikes... yours looks nice!
maybe yellow bottle bages - just an idea (nm)bm

Sweet. It looks like a rocket ship with the chrome finish.
And the yellow accents. Nice.

Michelin Axial Performance. They are about 300g so I change to something lighter for racing. (No race wheelset yet, maybe next year) I haven't had them for long but they seem pretty good.
