Does anyone else choose their tires based on the color?Ken56

I have to confess that my decision to go with the Vittoria Open Corsa tires last year was due largely because they were green with a black center stripe. My bike is a Seven Axiom Ti, with the green decals bordered in white and I thought that the green tires would really look great on my bike. Am I sick or what? The orignal tires that I got for the bike were Conti's and they kept flatting out on me constantly. So then at the suggestion of the LBS, I switched to Specialized, which were red. I hated those, only because of the color. Everytime I looked down at my front wheel, I was reminded how ugly they looked. So I mail-ordered the Vittoria's and put them on at the end of the season. I have over 2000 miles on them and they've been great. I have another set waiting in the garage when these wear out. It just makes me feel good to look down at the front wheel. Does this suggest that I may be obsessed?

Colored tires exist because there is a market for them. (nm)nn23

Can't have a ugly bike. It's against the law, I think. =)
Yep, I have all black GP3000's and black/grey Axial Pro Race n/mfracisco

There are some I won't consider because of the color. I have no interest in those green Michelins or the all-weather Vittoria tire.

My tubulars have a color stripe which matches my bike. Since the color matches I go with it. Otherwise I would choose all black.

Yes, I admit it, I bought the Open Corsas on sale at WCP because they were orange to go with my Rabobank Master X-light...guilty as charged.

I usually buy tires when I can find good brands on sale -- like Michelins and Contis for $20-25 each. The colored tires must not sell as well because it seems like they are the ones that usually go on sale. Certain color combinations look pretty cool and others look awful. I think there ought to be a law against yellow tires because they look grungy as soon as they get a little road grime or tar on them. The green Axial Pros look good on some bikes and not others -- they look great on my blue Gios, but not so good on my celeste Bianchi (too much green). I have bought several pairs of Michelin Hi-Lite Prestiges (how did they ever come up with that name?) because they were on sale for cheap ($20) and wear great, but I am not crazy about the red sidewalls. When I run them on my Gios, it looks like a flag. On a red bike, I think red tires is overkill.

Interesting topic. I saw a mountain bike once that looked
like a clown car because each rim, tire and part was a
different color.

That being said, my tires are black but I bet yellow would
go nicely with my yellow framed bike, or perhaps blue.

I might consider it but it depends on how long these
Carbon Comps last.

I think a lot of people pick tire colors. A lot of people just don't want to confess. There is a market!
Sometimes, but if the price is right, who cares about color? nmgreg n
