ever heard birds' wings
flock of sparrows in dawn's light
changing directions

totally silent
road, sky, cloud, sun, bike, rider
except sparrows' wings

ever heard the rain
as it drops through brown corn fields
more gentle than wind

slow, watch the storm move
carrying raindrops across
leaving them in corn

ever seen bean sprout
suspended in midair dance
spinning in one place

dustless dust devil
having its way with bean sprout
stationary wonder

ever heard crickets
from dark to dawn to full light
you can sense the land

cricket song changes
interspersed with frogs deep calls
from dry to wet, back

been chased by a storm?
lightning over the hillside
thunder under wheels

pick up speed and turn
sideways rain and angry wind
unavoidable

have you seen these kids
ten year old on tandem front
five year old on back

riding house to house
strictly for transportation
squeaky greaseless chains

dressed identical:
overalls, only, and hats
the floppy straw kind

no shoes

Did you think of the poem and write it on the ride or after?

Just kidding... congrats on riding a double century and good poem

Cheers,

ever have brain
go dead from bonk?
mind numbing hunger

inconceiveable distances
where is that map?
I'll ride on anyway

brain feels content
beat the asphalt ribbon
it's a good pain
bravo! bravo! bravo! allez! allez! allez! nmJS Haiku Shop
