Poll: How many cyclists/hour do you see in your area?(21 posts)

Poll: How many cyclists/hour do you see in your area?rwbadley
Sep 5, 2002 6:32 AM
I was out for a ride yesterday and started counting the number of other cyclists in our area.

In Reno I have found daily and seasonal variation, but I estimate the average cyclist per hour ratio on my typical fair weather ride to be;

weekday: 2-8
weekend: 6-15

How about you?

What if you see other cyclists, but they are not on their bikes, so you really don't know if they are cyclists or not. How do you count these?

If a bicycle falls over in a garage and nobody hears it, does it make any sound?

Mountain or road? nmCaptain Morgan

The question simply concerned cyclists, and was not limited to cyclists riding bikes.
No room, I couldn't get 'on bikes' in topic headingrwbadley

Should've made room by deleting "in your area"Captain Morgan

Suggestion: You could have added "on bikes" in the topic heading if you would have just deleted "in your area." I think "in your area" was pretty much understood. As a matter of fact, of all of the cyclists I see while riding, all are "in my area."
Yes, but then where would you see them? nmrwbadley

Yesterday I came across at least 30 other riders but only because I crossed paths with one of the LBS rides. Normally its around 5-10 weekday and 15+ on weekends if you don't go out too early.
weekdays:0-3 weekends:0-8, depending on time, weather, route...hrs

Sometimes in the winter we will go for a few months without seeing another cyclist on weekends but then we ride on backroads way out of town.

I usually ride early in the AM. It's rare to see any cyclists on weekdays. On weekends, I might see one or two over a 60-70 mile ride. But usually, none. This might explain why I ride alone alot....or is it that 'sprinkle a day' thing....?????

In the past 6 weeks that i have been riding, i have seen a total of 1 other person. So accourding to my training log, that put the ratio somewhere in the area of .04 per hour. :- )
