|Just wondering. My son and I do both. We probably do 50/50 time wise. Of course, we do more miles on the road for the same amount of time. I love both. They seem to balance each other very well. Anyone not mtb ride at all?|

|95% of my time is on the road. Not by choice, I can road bike right out my door mountain bike requires about 1 and half hours round trip to get to the closest trail. I just don't have that luxury of time.|

|If you include my 3 mile comute, the balance probably shifts towards MTB, since I pull out the single speed MTB most days. For longer rides, I usually do at least one 30 mile group road ride a week, and one 2 hour solo MTB ride.
From what I've seen, many folks do 100% of one or the other. It may be an atypical sampling, but trying to organize a MTB ride with the Twin Cities Bike Club (3000 member) is like herding invisible cats. First you have to find them...

|That's deceiving since I race on the MTB. Just spend most of my other time training on the road. It's just easier to hop on the skinny tires and go rather than drive to trails.|

|Ditto for me. Also, my wife is starting grad school and money will be tight for a few years...gotta conserve my mtb parts budget.
If you ride mtb alot and race, you'll go through hundreds of dollars every season. Tires, drivetrain, bb, shock/fork overhauls, headset cleaning, broken seatposts, etc etc...
I'm sort of over all the trails in my area, anyway. Not really worth the drive anymore. But I still love mtb racing, even more than road racing or training. However, I was in a lot better race shape when I rode mtb most of the time...just a different set of muscle movements, I think.
