Problem:Chainring chain tracking- Shimano Ultegrabronzest

Problem- when the chain is turning on the 39T chainring and either the 8 or 9 sprocket of the 9 spd cassette the side of the chain rubs against the inside of the 53T chainring. Is there an adjustment that can be made to correct the alignment between the chainring and cassette? All components are Ultegra. THANKS!

This is a frequent problem. Nearly any system will have chain ring rub in the small/small combo, and some have it in the next-to-small/small as well. The only solutions are to move your crank set to the right (a spacer at the BB) or move your large chain ring to the right with spacers at the crank bolts. The former may result in chain line problems in the large chain ring (upper cluster gears may become problematic) and the latter may result in chain jams between the rings and poor shifting. Most would advise to just give up on using the small-small combo. Check your chain line (the middle rear cog should be dead centered between the two chain rings when sighting down the frame - use a long straight edge to verify this). If the chain line is right, then you are on your own as to whether getting the use of the two smallest cogs when on the 39 is worth the risk on the rest of your shifting.
Or you can get a wider BB next time. nmseyboro
