I want to purchase a set of carbon road bars. How do I determine the proper size (width)?

you size 'em like any other bars, based on shoulder width. IMHO, most rider unless they are much larger than average or much smaller than average will take 42 and people worry too much about bar width. You want to be able to reach straight forward with hands on the hoods ... not inward (compressing your chest) or outward (fatiguing triceps).

The Easton's are measured c-to-c supposedly but because the bars are a little fatter than al bars, my 42s feel wider than my old 42 TTT's.
