Saw that too...I almost didn't check the listing b/c I assumed they would all be baseball and football movies! The only movie that I didn't really think belonged was The Hustler. I have never seen it and it may indeed be a great movie, but have we really sunk the level where we view pool as a sport? ;)

with the two brothers racing in the midwest. One of them has a brain aneurysm and I think dies in the movie. They were riding Specialized Allez bikes.
I think that was "American Flyers" (NM)Snowbird

American Flyers.
The big race in the movie called "The Hell of the North" used the defunct "Coors Classic" stage race as a back drop.

Not as good as Breaking Away though. Which has some great lines and scenes especially the one where the father comes in the room looking shocked and says his son is shaving.
Wife replies "so what?"
Father - "his legs!"
Great stuff.

Saw Breaking Away at the cinema back in 1979 when I was 14, begged my parents and got a road racer that chistmas. Joined a cycling club and did my first race the following year 1980. So BA really was a great inspiration for me

Breaking Away came out on DVD recently. Still find it great for getting motivated to get out for a ride, especially the great scene with the Cinzano truck.

Anyone else inspired to start cycling/racing by seeing BA?

My coach had all of the lines memorized, and we used to banter back and forth during rides. We watched it often. Is it a Canadian movie??

We used to spoof the Italian riders real good!
