I'm in the market for a road bike and have found a new Cannondale R800 Compact at a local bike shop. It's a 2000 with a double chain ring, 105 components, 650 wheels and the rest is standard. It fits perfect (I'm 5' and the smaller bikes are not as readily stocked as the larger sizes) and I love the look. The owner wants $1000 with $130 to change it to a triple (includes crank, btm bracket and frnt derailer - all 105). Does this seem like a reasonable price considering it is 2 years new?
Around here that would be reasonable to a little high...cory

Prices vary a little around the country, but that's close to the ballpark here. You could find a cheaper bike, certainly. But you're right--fit is really important, and little frames aren't common (I have the same problem in the other direction--I need a 64 or 65cm). I'd probably buy it, and I think you're smart to get the triple. Swapping the crank isn't a very hard job, but be sure the guy does it right.
