Is there a closed loop park in the middle of the city? I think its called Piedmont Park. Does it have a loop for joggers, skaters, bikers?

Does Atlanta have any MUT trails for the same purpose? A friend has a 2 week biz trip coming up and cannot ride, so she wants to at least bring skates to get a little exercise.

is just west of the city:

It can get busy on weekends with joggers, skaters, cyclists, families walking, you name it. If your friend wants fewer folks around, start further west.

I am not from Atlanta, so I have no reliable information about parks and other skating possibilities.

It all depends on where you're staying at. If you'll be near Midtown / Downtown, then Piedmont Park is the place -- BEFORE DARK. No specific lanes, it's closed to autos.

If you're east of town, Stone Mtn Park. West of town, Silver Comet Trail. North of town, see Columns Drive below of Kennesaw Mountain Park.

West of town, Midtown / Downtown: there is one other option. It's Columns Drive. It's a flat residential road that runs parallel to the Chattahoochee River and goes to one of the entrances to the National Recreation Area. You would get to it off of Johnson Ferry Road.

If you want, e-mail me at cmyrickjr@mindspring.com and I'll give you more info / directions. For info on Columns Drive, you could call Atlanta Cycling in Vinings (www.atlantacycling.com) and they can should be able to assist. If not, let me know.

I'm be out of town and away from a computer until Tuesday. But I'll get back with you then or if I can, I'll check in over the weekend but making no promises! Shame ya' can't bring the bike, we have some nice road rides and mtn biking.
