When I purchased my Lemond in '99, the first time I tried to sprint the rear wheel released from the dropout and slammed into the seat tube and almost put me on the ground. I retightened and only to have it loosen a second time. Took it back to the shop and the Shop Goon removed some paint from the dropout that seemed to be too slick for skewer to grip. This was a Rolf skewer. I still am riding those wheels and the bike is getting powdercoated and painted this week. I suspect that the slickness issue will return and am thinking of replacing the skewers. Has anyone used American Classic skewers? Any problems? I am asking about them because my next set of wheels may be AC's so I would have some matching components and something that held the rear wheel in place.
