Can the Polar S710 HRM interface with Macintosh computers? If so, how and what's needed to make it work? Thanks.

I don't think the Polar software is compatible with Macs...but what you can do is buy software that installs a windows operating system into your mac and then you are able to run PC based applications on your Mac.

The company is called is the sight for the software:

I'm not sure about the S710, but I checked this out last year myself. The consesus that I recieved was that the Polar software didn't run at all or very well with virtual PC types of software on Macs. You may want to check this out before buying software only to find out it still isn't compatable.

Well sorry to give the bad news but it wont work on the Mac, even running virtual PC. I tried everything to get ti to work in virtual PC but no luck while using the internal IR port on my powerbook.
I asked the Polar guys if they were going to support Mac's in the future but they told me that they arent planning anything any time soon.

You must have:

* OS 9.2.2 (other versions of OS 9 may work)
* Keyspan high-speed serial to USB adapter (model #19QW)
* Serial IR Polar unit
* Virtual PC v. 5 with Win98 (works w/VPC 4.0) or Win2K (not w/VPC 4.0)

Make sure you load the keyspan extensions for OS 9. In VPC's settings
for Windows select "COM1" and choose the Keyspan unit. Go into the
settings for the Polar software and make sure it's set to Serial and
COM1 for the 710 connection.

What does NOT work:

Mac OS X with any combination of VPC (Classic does not work)
USB IR Polar unit (does not work with any MacOS or VPC version)

PC Coach v. 3.5 is able to connect to the 710 without a problem via
setup above.

Once you get the data off the watch in OS 9 you can then boot back into
X and use VPC and the Polar Software/PC Coach with the files.

Thanks for the info, Fausto. Us Mac users gotta stick together. I've pasted your info into a stickies document for future reference.

You bet! There is a lot of misinformation circulating on how these can't be used on Macs. It's just finding the right combo and your in business.

Using the 710 on my Mac with VirtualPC is a dream.
