Hello,

Can anyone with a giant compact road frame share some sizing info ? I'm 5'11"(35" "cycling" inseem and long arms) and currently very comfortable with a 58 cm alum trek (c-t) w/ a 57cm top tube and 130mm stem, however, this seems to fit between Giant's medium and large sizing chart. Medium bikes come with a 55.5 cm top tube and large are 58.5 cm top tube. I'm really not worried about seat tube height, as top tube is what makes the bike for me. I guess I'm leaning towards a large, and going with a shorter stem (maybe 110). It would take a heck of a stem to put a 55.5 top tube where I currently am with the 57cm/130stem. I really ride alot of seatpost on my trek and consequently have to move the seat pretty far forward on the rails to make up for the bottom bracket distance lost as the height increases (I'm a spinner and like being closer to BB). I have a local shop that is giving me a killer deal on the new composite frame, and just want to shore up my sizing issues before the frame is actually available to me. I guess I pretty much rationalized my decision above, just looking for some feedback. Thanks . . .

take a look at seatangle. It effects published TT length.
From what you say large sounds like a better fit for you.

i recently test rode both an '01 Trek 5700 and '02 Giant TCR1...58cm for the Trek with a 115mm stem, and the Large for the Giant with a 120mm stem. honestly, the reach felt almost identical. the Giant might have been a tad longer, but it probably has the 1cm longer "effective" top tube, and the 5mm longer stem.

its weird though cause i'm 6'1, 34" inseem and thought the 58cm trek would be too small, and the Giant too big...but they were pretty close. if you currently have a 58Trek w/130mm stem, i'd test out a large Giant with a 120mm stem...good luck!

I'm also 5'11" with a 35" inseam. It's fun trying to buy slacks, isn't it?

I've had a few bikes and always go for something like a 61cm seat tube (c-t) and a 58.5 top tube. On these frames I use a 110 stem.

I'm going to be picking up a used large TCR frame soon. I haven't test ridden it so it's something of a flyer but it's a good price and the frame comes highly recommended.

I'm sure a medium would be too small for me - based on the top tube. I'd go with a large.

FWIW, I'm 5'11" with 33.5 inseem and ride a medium TCR. Large felt too big for me. One cool thing about my lbs is that they let you test ride the bike for 1 month, and if you're not satisfied you can exchange or return it. Take advantage of that if your lbs has it too. Great way to ensure the bike you choose is the right fit.

I'm only 1" taller than you, with a very minor increase in inseam length than you. I have a Large Giant OCR, and it fits perfectly for me, I can't imagine you having a problem with it.
