The best? I don't know about that. I have one though and I think it makes an excellent training frame. Very nice ride and it corners like it's on rails.
All things considered? It's a contender...TJeanloz

The Veloce is sort of a rare breed- a lower/middle priced steel bike. When considering whether or not it's the best, I tried to think of something to compare it to, and really there's not much out there. None of the big players have a steel bike that compares- except maybe LeMond, which is probably much more expensive (?- I don't know LeMond's lineup that well). What else is out there in mid-priced steel?

Compact Pro at Excel Sports, Boulder. Excel is the sole US distributor for these excellent frames. Very reasonably priced, too. My experience with Excel has been quite positive. You'll have a choice of a steel fork or a carbon. Excel will sell a frame all the way up to a complete bike. Roll your own. Personally, I like the Gios winning blue over celeste any day, but that's just my preference.

I'm reasonably happy with my IronHorse Victory that I got on the internet for about $1250. Reynolds 853 frame, Ultegra setup, climbing and cornering is pretty decent.

Might be worth a look if you can find one.

I test rode the Veloce and the LeMond B.A. and went with the LeMond. I can't say that either bike was significantly better or worse. It was a personal fit thing, as well as my preference for a particular LBS.
not a bad choice, but I'm sure there are others (nm)ColnagoFE
