I'm thinking about leading 2 DC area rides in October.MB1

Miss M and I have been doing some club organized rides in DC. We have always enjoyed riding from home and have started talking about leading some rides from near home in October (it will take that long to get them into the club newsletter).

Early October we are thinking about a 200K starting from Key Bridge in Georgetown. This is the ride we put together for LenJ as the LHL ("Lots of hills Len" or Lets hurt Len") Century. Naturally it will have lots of hills and the potential of about 15 miles of dirt roads with options to avoid the dirt and short options of 100K and 100 miles. This is pretty much what we do every Saturday so it should be a snap to put together for us. We are thinking about starting at sunrise.

Here are the reports LenJ and I posted about this ride (although we didn't exactly follow the route I plan to in October).

Late in October we will again lead the "NSA/OCE Fixte Century with Snow Cone Option. This is a fairly flat century starting in Nokesville Northern Virginia. We will ride our fixtes but geared bikes are more than welcome.

Anyone interested? Got any other ideas? Perhaps just an easy 50 mile tour of the district?

Let me know.

October other than the weekend of the 26th (I'll be away all weekend), but, as a married guy, I often find out about these things after they occur. Or something like that. Sundays are often better than Saturdays, although that's usually negotiable.
and then there is the Seagull Century on, I believe, 10/12. nmbill

A mass immersion of the faithful, not unlike Hindus gathering in India to bathe in the river Ganges. Crowded, uncomfortable, possibly not good for your health (lots of wrecks), but always on the calendar.

I am interested in the Nokesville century. I have done many rides from the community park there. It is a good ride start location.

So I'm in.

The only weekend (as of now) that I am unavailable is the seagull w/e, which I think is 10/12.

... and if not, the cruiser will be ready and willing to go the distance.

Afterwards, you can drop by and see the new house in Manassas. We settle on Friday, move in over the weekend.

I'm very interested in a ride. Probably something shorter as I dont think I can handle 200km of hills.

MB1 - Did you get my email about Labor Day?
Yes, still thinking. I'll reply tomorrow. nmMB1

I'm in the same situation as the other guys, family wise, except my wife and daughter really love visiting DC. The trick is convincing them that it would be just as much fun -- or maybe more so -- with me off riding my bike half the day. Right now, I have no firm commitments for October, although I was thinking about doing a ride in Tigerville, SC, on Oct. 12, but that's not a definite.

if you can schedule one out well in advance for this time (or another nice time of season) next year, i'm there. with as many gears as i can bring. (or, as few!)
That would require thinking and planning.....MB1

I'll see what I can do. Why don't you pick a date and I'll set up the ride?

We ride every day of the year almost regardless of the weather (ice or very, very cold rain will force us to shorten our rides).
what's a good month? nmJS Haiku Shop

We have done a 200K at least once a month for the last couple of years. It is pretty dark until April or so. Can be cold and windy too.
