hey all... I am an avid mtn biker looking to get into road bikes (or cx) and have been wanting a steel frame to get started with.

two nights ago I went to a friends who was back in Ohio from ohio and she took me up to look at an older puegot (sp?) road biuke sitting in the hey loft. granted it is in a lttle bit of rough shape right at the moment but everything seems to be functional. I am trying to figure out what it is. I don't have much experience with road bikes.

all it says on it is vitto (or maybe vetto) premium 980 with regards to the frame (half the sticker is missing.) It has campy Modolo components with a 12 speed cassette. it has down tube friction shifters on it. Any thoughts? it is brownish gold, says hand brazed and made in france on it. I ma going to start figuring out what i can to do either just make it a functional road bike or cross it out.

Unfortunately, most Peugeots-with the exception of PX-10's-ain't worth a pile of dung! Check Sheldon Brown's site for an idea, or for links to Peugeot owners sites. Just don't get your hopes up.
