Klein's 2003 Lineup?Star Fangled Nut

Can someone who has seen Klein's 2003 lineup please describe it to me? I have been to all the local shops and none had any catalogs. I'm especially interested in the new compact geometry frame though I heard Klein Quality has taken a hit. I've also heard they are bringing the original Quantum Pro back as a middle of the line setup. Is this true? Thanks!

... I was looking for a hard tail but they only had two of them there. I really did not pay a lot of attention to the rest. The components and price for the setup was just way off of what I am building so I did not pay close attention.

I might be stopping back again so if you have some specific questions I could try and be more observant.

Klein has 5 road bikes for 2003.

The two traditional frame designs both use the proprietary airheadset. The joints where the unistay carbon seatstay bonds to the mainframe look a little unfinished for what I percieve to be a high end bike. I presume, based upon the stroke size of the letters, that the graphics are masked and overpainted just as Klein has done in the past.

There are three compact frame designs. All use stock Cane Creek headsets. The joints between the carbon and the aluminum look neater to me. The colors and graphics look garish to me like they'd be more at home on a Gary Fisher bike. Looks like it has to be a decal - That's a downgrade in my book.

So are there just two frame designs for 2003 then? The Quantum Carbon and Q-Pro Carbon? I also dislike the Time carbon seatstays Klein chose to use on the Q-Pro Carbon. They have ridges on the sides so it looks out of place compared to the rest of the frame. Very odd.

Quality control seems to have slipped. I have seen some Quantums with decals and others with the traditional debossed graphics. I have also seen a couple Quantum Pro frames come back from repaints saying Q-Pro Carbon on them. Where did this new carbon mysteriously come from?

On the mountainbike front they changed the Attitude and added those ugly as sin barrel-shaped headtubes. Then they swicthed the cable routing to the top tube. Why bother routing it internally then? The Palomino has promise but its really just a modified Maverick design. Where's the innovation?

As a long time Klein fan I hate to see them heading in this new direction.

I too have long been a fan of Klein...and I just got my q pro carbon as an insurance settlement to replace my quantum pro (accident). From a distance the bike is beautiful (2002 model still built in Chehalis) and I purposely chose to hunt for a 2002 model because I had heard that the 2003 lineup colors were...a little out there.

Up close I have to agree on the finish work at the seat stays... But the new ZR tubes are elegantly shaped (IMHO).

In my case I noticed that it appears that there is excess 'glue' that was painted over where the seatstays join the main frame.

Looks aside, it rides beautifully...just don't like the Era leather/titanium seat, should be used in the Chevy Truck add 'like a rock'!

You don't like your Era saddle?? Would you be interested in selling it??

Yes, aside from the odd looking juction where the carbon stays are attached it is very nice. Of course, the price has gone up. I just wish they had chosen a different manufacturer for the stays as their choice is the most mismatched out of all those available. I have not seen the new Quantum Carbon yet though. Perhaps someone with a 2003 catalog could scan some pictures in and post them here. ; )

Where can I find a picture of the new compact Quantum Carbon? Anyone care to post a picture of it? Where are you getting these 2003 catalogs? Apparently no shops by me have them!

It's up now.

The frames don't look as bad as people here made them out to be ...
