Any thoughts on Sampson bikes???hycobob

I put money down on a ($1850 ride out) demo Trek 5200, but was looking at the Sampson Silverton Ti and getting that old "am I sure?" feeling. I can get a ride out price of $2199 on the Sampson w/DA components and a Bantrager Select wheelset or Velomax for $100 more. Thats only $350 more for brand new Ti. It'll also shave a good bit of weight (Trek @ 18.8lbs vs. Sampson @ 17.25lbs). I know Bicycling Mag liked them alot but what are your thoughts, there weren't any reviews on their 2002 bikes here? I think I hate being ready to buy a bike more than not being ready to; AAAHHHHH!!!!!!!

They have a great rep here in Denver and I'd recommend them to anyone looking at ti, particularly within a budget constraint. Two folks I ride with regularly are on 'em and can't say enough about their love for their rides and for Eric Sampson.

Query for you to consider: do you want ti or CF? That seems like a pretty basic thing to figure out that is more important than "Trek v. Sampson"
trying to make me think, huh?hycobob

I've wanted Ti for some time now but the 5200 deal seemed to good to pass up at the time. Another factor is that this particular LBS owner can be real a jerk.

I have been riding a Sampson Silverton Ti for about 1 year. Love the bike. Eric Sampson took his time for several phone calls with me to get the fit right. For the price and the quality you cannot beat this bike.

I purchased a Sampson Silverton with Campy Record a few weeks ago and am VERY HAPPY with my decision. I looked for a long time before deciding to go with Sampson. The bike, welds, ride and customer service are excellent. For the price the product is excellent and I have no regrets. Eric Sampson was a delight to deal with and very helpful in his suggestions for components. The bike is very smooth riding, responsive and lightweight. I have tried to post a 2002 review here without any success so I am glad that you asked the question. After sending Eric my measurements and discussing problems with my previous bike, the fit is perfect. I highly recommend the bikes and the company without any reservations at all. I am taking it to the Hotter-n-Hell ride this weekend in Wichita Falls, Texas to try out the bike on a century ride.

that I got just about a year ago. I got it set up with DA and Cane Creek Aerohead wheels. I love the bike and the help from Eric during the initial calls. I was a little leery about riding it within 10 days of getting it on a 200 mile race but it was dialed in and a great ride. Light, responsive and comfortable. Unless you are in Denver or know someone who has one, you can't demo ride them. Go with what you want.
