|I am looking to relocate to Portland, Or from Chicago. I am so excited about the riding (road and mtn), public trans, riding, forests, riding, environment, everything...except one thing...job market sucks....
Any tips? I am prepared to do a job that is not in my field of expertise...rrrggg, I wish money were not an issue and playing all day was a reality...

|I commute everyday to work, lots of bike trails etc. Great bike clubs- I love it here. But good luck getting a job. We have the highest unempolyment rate in the country. Also, businesses like to hire locals before imports. Housing prices are outragous too- it's getting like CA. But if you love the outdoors and are willing to wait out the slump in the economy this is the place to live.
What do you do in Chicago?

|i will be relocating to p-town soon also. i lived there for 3 years in college, and cant wait to get back. the riding, transit, etc are as great as anywhere in many respects. side note: i was back there last weekend and the latest 'hip' beer is PBR, pabst blue ribbon...strange, i thought, from a micro brew hub.
anyway, my cousin lives across the river and bikes a few short miles to work across the brige to work (my dream commute).
i've been looking passively at the job market for the past few months, and its not great. but i've got a little time and would be willing to settle on a so-so gig temporarily. also, i'm not looking forward to having to buy more wet weather cyclo gear :(.

|I am in the design and contruction business and it is really depressing as far as jobs are going. The feedback I am getting from other professionals is mostly BAD with one or two good words of advice mixed in....I am prepared to get there and not work in my area of interest, however, I don't want to do it for too long. I can go a few months w/o working, which would be a dream, I could bike and run all day, enjoy life....
Thanks again for responding, take it easy!
