Anyone from the area? How is the riding? I'm considering taking a job there and, of course, the riding will be an important factor in my decision.

I went to the University of Kentucky with a guy that ended up going to Vet school there. He said the riding was alright, but not great. It is pretty flat, humid and hot. He said it didn't even come close to the bluegrass area.

I live about 45 minutes from Auburn in LaGrange, Ga.
The riding is great in this area. There is a pretty good bike community for a town of around 15,000. several Tri guys. some great mtb not far away.

I have a tri-geek friend at Auburn who describes it as hot, humid, and not particularly friendly to bikers. He usually rides about dawn to avoid all three factors.

Yikes. I keep hearing that it's not too friendly down there. I see where Auburn has the stamp of "Bicycle-friendly Community" but that says nothing for the outlying areas, I guess.

north of auburn, though. very humid. pretty hot. really nice terrain for riding, though. away from the school, there is not too much in the way of traffic to worry about. however, alabama is not a place with a large biking population and i would be careful going way out in the sticks alone. people have been known to try to play all kinds of pranks on bikers. watch that.
